Burbridge stars as Rovers keep their Vase hopes alive
JUSTIN MOSELEY’S in-form Brimsdown Rovers side have the chance to stamp their names in the history books after they equalled the club’s previous best ever run in the FA Vase with a 3-2 victory over London Colney on Sunday.
Rikki Burbridge continued his hot streak since returning from a groin injury by grabbing a double, and Jackson Gash’s wonder-strike late on cemented Rovers’ place in the third round of the competition – and a home clash with Combined Counties outfit Newport Pagnell Town on December 5.
With Rovers flying high in the Vase and finding form in the Spartan Premier Division, the club was rewarded this week with the team of the month accolade from the Spartan League after having lost just once since the start of October, with that being a 1-0 defeat at Hanwell Town in a lesser cup game three weeks ago.
And an understandably beaming boss Moseley hailed his side as they continued their red hot form with Sunday’s victory.
“We started fantastically well and really we should have been three-up in the first 15 minutes,” he said. “The award is all down to the players. We had an indifferent start but they have really turned it around.
“We just have to keep it going. We are not going to get above ourselves, we are just going to take each game as it comes and see where it leads us.”
Burbridge fired the home side into a tenth-minute lead, but
a nasty head injury to Jon Stevenson, which required more than a dozen stitches, coupled with the loss of striker Ricci Crace moments later, saw Rovers’ flow disrupted after the two enforced changes.
Shaun Murphy headed an equaliser, but Burbridge fired home a shot just before the
interval to give Rovers the lead.
“It threw us losing Jon and Ricci, and we dropped to their level a bit,” Moseley added. “But Burbs came up trumps with the goal. We were on the back foot a bit and it was a great time to score.”
Gash then curled home a cracking effort late on to put Rovers on course for victory, but Murphy replied almost instantly to set up a nervy finish.
“We had to really scrap it out, and I was quite relieved to hear the final whistle in the end,” Moseley admitted.
Brimsdown return to league action when they host Chalfont St Peter on Saturday (3pm).
Rovers FA Vase Second Round Celebrations
A good turn out observed a successful and thriving game for Rovers against London Colney for the FA Vase second round on Sunday 15th November.
Rovers started the game well and was 1-0 up after 15 minutes and had to make a few changes after Jon Stevenson accidently received a head injury through a clash of heads which needed stitches, however Moseley's men grouped together to fight for their place in the third round, with goals from Rikki Burbridge and Jackson Gash making the winning score 3-2 at full time.
A good win and the next FA Vase third round will be against Newport Pagnell Town on Saturday 5th December 2009, 3pm kick off.

Brimsdown leave it late to rescue a point at Aylesbury
JUSTIN MOSELEY hailed the character of his Brimsdown Rovers side after they put a nightmare journey behind them to snatch a 3-3 draw in a thrilling Spartan Premier Division clash at high-flying Aylesbury on Tuesday night.
Traffic problems on the M25 saw them arrive at Aylesbury’s Haywood Way ground little more than five minutes before the scheduled kick-off time of 7.45pm, and meant that they were unable to go through any sort of warm-up before the match got under way.
Given this, it was hardly surprising that Craig Henney fired the hosts into a third-minute lead, but Brimsdown fought back superbly and Jon Stevenson’s penalty and a Rikki Burbridge strike gave them the lead at half-time.
However, Aylesbury came out revitalised at the start of the second period and goals from Dean Brennan and Kieron Schmidt put them back ahead – only for Ricci Crace to snatch an equaliser with time running out.
“We showed real character and dug in deep to get a result,” said boss Moseley. “I was a bit disappointed to concede three goals, but it was understandable in the circumstances. We were all over the place in the first ten or 15 minutes.”
Tuesday’s draw continued Brimsdown’s fine recent run of form, which also saw them secure an impressive 2-0 win over second-placed Dunstable Town on Saturday.
Burbridge marked his return from a groin injury by opening the scoring on 48 minutes, while Marc Sontag added the second with 18 minutes remaining.
“I think Saturday was the best we’ve played all season,” Moseley said. “We controlled the game from start to finish against a good side, and it was an excellent all-round team effort.
“The lads are really starting to gel now. We just needed a bit of time to get it together. They are all starting to trust each other and we’re definitely moving in the right direction.”
Brimsdown will turn their attention away from the league on Sunday when they welcome Spartan Division One outfit London Colney to Goldsdown Road in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase (1pm).
“We won’t be taking them lightly and we’ve got to make sure that we prepare properly for Sunday,” he said. “But we really want to do well in the Vase this year, and we know that it is a good chance for us to progress.”
Rovers draw at Aylesbury FC on 10.11.09
A late kick off due to an accident on the M25 caused Rovers to arrive at Aylesbury FC at 19.35pm, leaving the game kicking off at 8pm and giving Rovers no time to have a pre-match warm up.
However after a poor 15 minutes start and conceding a goal Rovers found their feet and got back into the game around the half hour mark with a penalty from Jon Stevenson. The remaining half saw Rovers creating a number of chances and took the lead just before half time from a well worked goal from Rikki Burbridge and Rovers went in at half time 2-1 up.
After the break Aylesbury seemed to have the upper hand and scored from a free kick. As the game went on Aylesbury pressed and within 10 minutes remaining they took the lead, and with five minutes left Rovers were rewarded a free kick from out wide which Lee Sontag delivered, Jon Stevenson connected, to deliver to Ricci Crace who then stabbed the ball home at close range to earn Rovers a valuable point.
At full time the end score was 3-3.
Injury Update
Tim Cole – pulled his hamstring in Rovers last league game, hopefully with rest will return within 1-2 weeks.
John Hickman – Is due to have his cast taken off his broke thumb this week and is hopefully to get the all clear from his specialist.
Adam Moss – returns to full training after a hamstring strain, picked up against Hatfield Town.
Russell Williamson – had a successful operation on his groin and hopefully will be back training in 6-8 weeks time.
Ekram Yilmaz – Due to attend training either this week or next week (due to a bruised ankle).
Rovers continues their victory run against Dunstable Towns FC on 07.11.09
Rover continue their impressive form and earned another three points putting then ninth in the league table with four games in hand.
With goals from Rikki Burbridge and Marc Sontag concluded the game to a 2-0 win against a hard working and well organised Dunstable Town side.
Overall a good team performance and good individual displays from Lee Sontag, Mark Virgo and Andy Porter (the new signing) and our new skipper Jon Stevenson.
Rovers next game is away to Aylesbury FC on Tuesday 10th November.

In-form Brimsdown set for a crucial period of action
BRIMSDOWN ROVERS boss Justin Moseley has called on his side to maintain their fine recent from as they gear up for a key month of action.
Rovers picked up their third successive Spartan Premier Division victory with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat of Hatfield Town last weekend, but Saturday sees Moseley’s side host second-placed Dunstable Town, before they head to high-flying Aylesbury on Tuesday.
Rovers also have the FA Vase second round proper clash at home to London Colney the following weekend, in addition to facing Chalfont St Peter in one of their three games in hand later this month.
“All these sides are in the mix and if we can do well then we could be looking at getting up to third in the table,” Moseley said.
“We have picked up ten points from 12, and it would be good to keep that run going.
“But we are not taking anything for granted, we are taking each game one at a time and we’ll see where that leads us. We are not going to get over confident.”
Adam Moss bagged his first goal of the season for Brimsdown to open the scoring just 20 minutes in on Saturday, and Ricci Crace ended his mini-drought by doubling their advantage on the half hour.
Former Dagenham and Redbridge legend Tim Cole added a third on his debut to seal the win in the second half.

Revival continues as Brimsdown win again
BRIMSDOWN ROVERS continued to haul themselves back into contention in the Spartan Premier Division as they stretched their unbeaten league run to three games with a 2-0 victory at Leverstock Green on Saturday.
Justin Moseley’s side now lie jut a point adrift of the top half of the table, and if they can take maximum points from their three games in hand then they will only be six points off Colney Heath at the top.
Saturday’s triumph was another job well done for Rovers, who won their first game at Leverstock for six years, and Moseley has challenged his side to remain unbeaten in league competition until they face London Colney in the third qualifying round of the FA Vase in just under three weeks on November 15.
“We did okay, the first half wasn’t very good but we improved after half-time,” the manager said. “It’s one of the places you have to go and grind out the three points, and I was pleased we did that. If you can keep picking up points away from home then you will soon climb the table.
“I have set the boys a target of going unbeaten until we play London Colney in the Vase.”
It is almost a month since Moseley read his side the riot act after desperately poor back-to-back defeats against Tring Athletic and Hanwell Town, and his players have certainly responded as they are unbeaten in four games since, picking up three wins.
“The players are working hard for each other now
and they have definitely raised their standards,” the manager added.
“It’s down to them to keep this good run going – they know what they’ve got to achieve and we will take each game as it comes.”
Moseley has also snapped up Dagenham and Redbridge legend Tim Cole to add a wealth of experience to add to his back line.
The no-nonsense centre back played more than 300 times for the Daggers, and could be involved at Hatfield Town this weekend.
Meanwhile a much-changed Rovers side slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Hanwell Town in the Premier Division Cup on Tuesday night.

Moseley’s relief as Rovers return to form in the league
JUSTIN MOSELEY is hopeful his side have turned a corner after they recorded their first win league in four matches to see off Harefield United on Saturday.
Two goals in five second half minutes from Ricci Crace and Paul Campbell were enough to give Rovers an overdue three points in the Spartan Premier Division – their first for more than a month.
While their cup form has been good, Rovers’ league form has been patchy at best, but manager Moseley feels his side’s well earned victory could prove to be the turning point of their so far stuttering season.
“It was a good all-round team performance, and probably our best in the league so far,” he said. “We were disciplined, well organised and the players did exactly what I told them. It’s what I’ve been waiting for for a long time.
“The players seem to have come to terms with where they are playing, and there was a lot more cohesion about our play. They know what they have to do if we want to climb the table, and we will take each game one at a time.
“We’re moving forward. Our cup form has been outstanding, and hopefully the Harefield win can be a turning point in the league.”
Brimsdown head to Leverstock Green this weekend, and the manager has backed his side to pick up a second successive win if they put in a similar performance on Saturday.
“We have beaten them already in the Premier Division Cup so hopefully we can pick up three points,” he said. “If we have the same ethic we showed on Saturday than we can look forward to that.”
Rovers win against Berhamsted on 20.11.09
Brimsdown Rovers FC openly won the Challenge Trophy match against Berhamsted FC, who did not go down fighting.
The first third of the game saw the Division Two Side carve out chance after chance on the visiting Brimsdown goal with great saves from Mark Virgo.
Brimsdown FC were 1-0 up before the break with a goal scored from Elliot Crosby in the 40th minute who found himself one on one and took the ball around the hesitant, oncoming keeper with little difficulty.
In the second half a disappointed Berhamsted FC then got a man sent off and conceded an absolute screamer from Rovers Mark Sontag who showed Berhamsted's floundering forwards how to finish when the ball flashed across the box and he connected with it first time to lash a volley from 25 yards into the very top corner of the net.
Berhamsted had been at fault for the first goal, but could do nothing about the strike which sealed the Rovers 2 – 0 victory,
Overall Rovers had a very good game, with four changes made from the weekends side that played. Good performances from Elliot Crosbie which impressed the first team Manager.
A well deserved three points for Rovers against Harefield United on 17.10.09
A good team performance from Rovers that earned them three points on the board, with goals from Ricci Crace and Paul Campbell. A well contested game against a well organised Harefield United, and both goals were scored in the second half and Rovers looked comfortable for the win, however Harefields were awarded a penalty with twenty minutes to go though Rovers managed to see out the game until full time.
This was by far Rovers best performance in the league this season.

Moseley remains upbeat despite slipping off pace
JUSTIN MOSELEY insists his side have what it takes to overhaul the considerable gap between themselves and the top of the Spartan Premier Division table.
Brimsdown Rovers slipped further away from the leading teams after a goalless draw with Langford at Goldsdown Road on Saturday, keeping them just two points off the bottom of the table.
Table-toppers Colney Heath have a 19-point advantage over Moseley’s men, but have played three games more, while Aylesbury have a 12-point lead having played a game less than Rovers.
Much was expected of Moseley’s side this season, but they have only shown glimpses of promise so far.
However, the manager believes they can start to make inroads into the leads of the pace-setters.
“We have fallen behind but we can catch up,” Moseley said. “We have the experience and the players know what they have got to do.
“Chalfont had a bad start but have turned it around, so there’s no reason why we can’t.”
Saturday’s draw stopped their league rot as they brought their two-game losing streak to an end, but Moseley is well aware his side have to improve drastically if they are to mount a belated challenge for promotion – as was expected of them.
“This is still virtually a brand new-side,” he added. “I don’t want to keep using that as an excuse but it takes a while for them to learn each other’s habits.
“Our FA Vase form has been different from our league form, but it is harder to win in the league because everybody is desperate for three points.
“But if we win our home games and pick up points away from home, then we can turn it around.”
Meanwhile Kevin Dear has stood-down from his role as assistant manager.
Mick Hollister will step up to be Moseley’s number two.
“Mick is vocal and will get in their faces, and that is what some of them need sometimes,” Moseley added.
“I’d like to thank Kevin for his hard work, and wish him the best for the future.”
Rovers draw a blank (10.10.09)
Rovers were held to a no score draw by Langford today at Goldsdown Road.

Nine-man Brimsdown hold on to keep Vase hopes alive
Justin Moseley did not hold back as he slammed his underperforming team after their dismal run of league form took a turn for the worse with a shocking defeat at Hanwell Town last week.
The manager said his team “needed to be men” and had to take responsibility for their below-par displays, needing to take “a long hard look at themselves.”
Fast forward seven days and Moseley’s unrepentant criticism must have done the trick after Rovers battled their way into the second round of the FA Vase by beating Hillingdon Borough 2-1 with nine men.
It was the response that the boss had demanded, and he hailed his side’s change in attitude as they held out for half an hour after Matt Keogh and Jon Stevenson were given their marching orders.
Stevenson had given Rovers a third-minute lead from the spot, and Jermain Hughes doubled the lead in the second half.
“It was an outstanding team performance – they dug deep and showed character,” Moseley said. “It is not an easy place to go to, but they worked hard and scrapped it out.
“They knew they were letting me down as well as themselves, and it’s down to them to put that right. This was a step in the right direction.”
The boss wanted his side to show more fight on the pitch, but Keogh took that to extremes when he threw a punch at a Hillingdon player, while Stevenson was adjudged to have led with an elbow when he went up for a header.
“I can’t defend Matt – he let everybody down,” he added. “But Jon’s sending off was very harsh.”
Rovers now turn their attention back to league action this weekend as they welcome Langford to Goldsdown Road.
Currently just one point off the bottom of the table, albeit with games in hand, Moseley knows his side have to start racking up some points.
“We need to take our Vase form into the league now,” he said. “I told the boys that with their reputations they shouldn’t be languishing at the bottom, and it seems that their attitudes have changed.
We have a platform where we can build from.”
Meanwhile, Brimsdown Rovers booked their place in the second round of the London Senior Cup with a last-gasp 3-2 extra time victory over Barking on Tuesday.
A Gary Mackin own goal and Keogh’s strike helped Rovers take the tie into extra time, where the game was decided by Craig Greenwood’s own goal in the 120th minute.
